man xorg.conf では以下な記述なんですが

       Xorg uses a configuration file called xorg.conf and files ending in the suffix .conf from the directory xorg.conf.d for its initial  setup.   The  xorg.conf
       configuration file is searched for in the following places when the server is started as a normal user:

           /etc/X11/<cmdline>
           /usr/etc/X11/<cmdline>
           /etc/X11/$XORGCONFIG
           /usr/etc/X11/$XORGCONFIG
           /etc/X11/xorg.conf
           /etc/xorg.conf
           /usr/etc/X11/xorg.conf.<hostname>
           /usr/etc/X11/xorg.conf
           /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.<hostname>
           /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf

上記のどこにもそれらしいファイルが見当たりません。/var/log/Xorg.0.log を確認してみたら以下な記述を発見。

[    30.499] (==) Using system config directory "/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d"

ls してみたら以下なカンジでファイルが投入されている模様。

$ ls /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/
10-evdev.conf  
11-evdev-quirks.conf  
11-evdev-trackpoint.conf  
50-synaptics.conf  
50-vboxmouse.conf  
50-vmmouse.conf  
50-wacom.conf  
51-synaptics-quirks.conf
$

トラックパッドを無効にするにはどうすれば良いのやら。

追記

上記の設定ファイルに手を入れてみたり移動してみたりしたのですが上手くいかず。最終的に gpointing-device-setting パケジを導入して設定変更できました。
